It appears that my only choice to configure notification server for Server 2008 R2 is "Browse" followed by an AD-search. Why the validation in Server 2008? Server 2003 took any valid SMTP server. What if my SMTP server is not a MS server? What if it's
in another non-trusted domain or forest? This is a hinderance in updating our server best practices. Ultimately if I cannot configure it for a non-MS server the reporting in FSRM will be lost, a big step backward for the 100s of servers in our enterprise.
I see a command line solution in TechNet for SharePoint 2010, but cannot find similar powershell, etc. for FSRM. Any help appreciated.
