Corrupted documents in a folder

$

Hi all,

I'm facing a really serious problem with my File server (Windows server 2008 R2 Enterprise) .

Yesterday morning, suddenly a bunch of documents (in a shared folder name "Public" seem to have been corrupted, files of all different file types, excel, word, pdf, jpg, ...
If you try to open these files, you get an error.
For example in excel you get the 'the file you are trying to open is in a different format than specified by the file extension' error. And you get the counterparts of this error in word, adobe reader,...

It happened only on a shared folder , other shared folders in same server are ok.
I try to copy and open these corrupted files in other folders / computers but it fails too.
I copy an ok file from another folder/computer into "Public" and it become corrupt too.

My server enabled Quota Management , File Screening , VSS , DFS . I haven't changed any configuration recently . I scanned it with Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Windows Server but cannot find anything.

I found 2 other people have same problem like me :

Hope somebody can help . Thanks in advanced.

Search by date, exclude by folder name

We have a client that was recently affected by the CryptoLocker malware. We are restoring folder by folder rather than a blanket restore since some files that were not affected may be overwritten by older backups if they were created in that window between last backup and infection. Is there a way in Windows Server 2008 R2 to search for folders and files by date but exclude specific folder name? Example: we've already marked several folders as foldername.infected so we know which folders to restore. I'd like to exclude those folders from my search by searching for all folders modified on a specific date but not include the folders that include the word "infected."

Without any scripting is there a way to do this?

Thanks.

Continuous Access - Failover takes 25s - Not using Witness

I have set up a MSCS Cluster with the file server role on it on VMware vSphere 5.1. Using RDM from a NetApp.

File Server role is configured for CAFS and while doing some tests I noticed that the brownout in file transfer takes about 25s. That's almost 3 to 4 times as what one would expect with CAFS (5 to 7s)

I went troubleshooting with a Windows 10 client and found the following error in SMBWitnessClient:

Event ID 8

Error

Witness client failed to register with witness server FS2 for notification on netname \\CFS-FS1. A security package specific error occurred

Did some research about this issue but most of them talk about SOFS instead of CAFS. CAFS is not so wide spread for general file-server usage it seems. When I run get-smbwitnessclient nothing's being returned.

Anyone an idea where this might come from?

Hard disk space keeps changing radomly (Secondary Drive)

Hi,

I am running server 2012 R2 and we have servers located at different sites with DFS replication enabled. However one our site with Server 2012 R2 has this strange issue (started a week back) - Hard disk space keeps changing randomly and running out of disk space.

Total Storage on Hard drive is 1.7TB. When I select all the folder and files including Hidden files/folders its appears to be 1TB but the hard disk keeps running out of disk space. I have tried deleting some files to make some free storage but as soon I delete anything it keeps filling up. Also, the hard drive space keeps changing (sometimes it shows 23MB, 160MB, 715MB, and then again back to 50MB, 5MB and so on, it keeps changing to different numbers) and also goes out of storage (0MB) and disk stopped working, then I need to delete something to get going. It is only happening on one server.

Folder stats

I have tried running different tools as listed below:

1. Ran disk clean up utility (no luck - can't find anything)

2. WindirStat (Total Storage 1.7TB)

3. Ran the SFC/ scannow.

4. Rebooted server (few times).

4. Have done disk fragmentation.

5. Shadow copy is disabled.

I will be performing MalwareByte Antimalware scan on server overnight for any malwares.

Could you please assist with any other suggestion(s)?

Regards,

Mitesh Sudan

Get-FileIntegrity of any file in my 2-way mirror StoragePool, 'Enabled' is False

does this mean none of my files are protected against bit rot !?

another thread reads:

"From the description, if FileIntegrity is set to Off, it will not trying to "examines other copies and trying to recover a disk error from a healthy copy" - however it will still do the "auto correction" which is its default behavior. The "auto correction" behavior is similar to a check disk in NTFS - which is not rely on Fileintegrity"

so, does "auto correction" correct bit rot, or do i need to recover bit rot error from a healthy copy which is only done when FileIntegrity Enable is set $True??

is "auto correction" always enabled?

what is difference between "auto correction" and "FileIntegrity" checking?

does the following command:

Set-FileIntegrity H:\ -Enable$True

enable file integrity checking for all current and future subdirectories and files on H:\ ??

i ask because i have used the command above but when i check individual files they all say FileIntegrity Enabled is False and i was not expecting this behavior and i haven't found it explicitly documented.

Can't delete leftover DFSR Staging folders after removing replication group.

I removed a replication group. The contents of \System Volume Information\DFSR\ weren't removed automatically. I tried deleting them and successfully deleted some of the files & folders but got an error that the \System Volume Information\DFSR\Private\{[GUID]}-{[GUID]}\Staging\ContentSet{[GUID]}-{[GUID]}\ path was too long. There are a couple TB in those Staging folders. How do I get that drive space back?

Thanks for any help.

DFS + Offline Files

Hey,

Can someone tell me what this message really means (the middle, hilighted one).  More importantly help me find out why it is happening on its own because the user is not deleting or renaming it on the server while changing it on their local computer.

Even more importantly and worringly, in this scenario, it really craps out and just deletes the file everwhere.  This user keeps reporting this to me, as is evidenced by the 'recreated' word in the file name.

Server OS is Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.  Client OS in Windows 10 Enterprise Anniversary Update.

Thanks!!

Dear Sir,

I have a shared folder in win2008r2 AD,

I want to access this folder and one subfolder of it...other subfolder and file are hidden.

I have set this shared folder Apply to "this folder only" :

Traverse folder/execute file  allow

List folder/read data allow

Read attribute allow

I have set this shared folder Apply to "Sub folder and file" :

full control Deny...

I have access this shared folder...I find that I can view all sub folder and files(I can not execute but I can view it)

All of them are not hidden, Any one help?

OK,

I find it from other forum....

1.       Click start -> run, type mmc and hit Enter to open the Management Console window.

2.       Click File menu -> Add/Remove Snap-in

3.       Find Share and Storage Management and click add, then OK to open the Share and Storage Management Console.

4.       Under the Shares tab, it lists all the shares on the current server. Right Click the shared folder that you would like to enable Access-Based Enumeration and select Properties.

5.       Under the Sharing tab, click Advanced button.

6.       Check the checkbox of Enable access-based enumeration.

Is there a way to apply different folder permission on one user account?

Scenario:

A shared folder on server A, user account has full control permission. Then when the same user access the said shared folder using different server (B) with read only permission.

Thank you.

fulltext file search (indexing) over DFS

Hi,

years ago we setup a file server with fulltext indexing for PDF, Office and TIF files. This works pretty fine.

Now we pointed this server with his old share into our new DFS structure. When we now try to search from the DFS mapping point we only find matching file names but the full text search does not work.

Is there any way to get this running?

Access Permission on shared folder and different permission on it's sub/child folder

$

Hello,

I am new to forum . Hope i can explain the case .

We are using Windows 2012 r2 standard server to provide Shared folder services using Active directory  in our organization.

We have an existing  shared folder with Read/Write permission.

Lets assume the name of shared folder  as "FOLDER"

The access permissions are as follows

User A : Only Read access

User B : R/W Access

User C : R/W Access.

There are following  sub folder and files under this  "FOLDER" and they have same access permission as parent folder.

1 : BM (Folder  (A has Read access; B has R/W access; C has R/w Access)

2: CM (Folder) ( A has Read access; B has R/W access,; C has R/w Access)

3. File.txt (A has REad access; B has R/W access and C has R/w access)

Now the user has requested the following changes to these sub Folder and file .

1: BM ( A has Read access; B has R/W access; C has no access)

2: CM ( A has Read access; C has R/W access;  B has no access)

3. File.txt ( A has Read access; B has R/W access; C has no access)

What is the best way forward to make the changes on existing folder ?

Thanks

Amjad

Webdav

Hi,

We used this doc to deploy a webdav service :

https://forum.odrive.com/t/how-do-i-setup-a-webdav-server-on-windows-and-link-it-to-odrive/1550/2

but whatever we tried, we got a "403 Forbidden: Access is denied
You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied"

Authenticated user has all rights on the folder, we tried to add ropghts for IIS_IUSRS too.

What could be wrong ?

What logs files could we read ?

Ricoh Aficio MP C2051 Scan to Folder - Windows Server 2012 Error: Authentication with the destination has failed check settings

$

I have recently upgraded a clients servers to Windows Server 2012 & since doing so have lost the ability to scan to folder.

Both servers are domain controllers and previously on a 2008 domain controller I would have had to make the following change to allow scan to folder:
 Administrative Tools
 Server Manager
 Features
 Group Policy Manager
 Forest: ...
 Default Domain Policy
Computer configuration
 Policies
 Windows Settings
 Security Settings
 Local Policies
 Security Options
Microsoft Network Server: Digitally Sign Communications (Always)
 - Define This Policy
 - Disabled

However I have applied this to the Windows 2012 server but am still unable to scan, possibly due to added layers of security in server 2012. The error on the scanner is Authentication with the destination has failed check settings.
I have also tried the following at the server:
Policies -> Security Policies
Change Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level to: Send LM & NTLM - Use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated.
Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) clients and uncheck the require 128 bit.
Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) servers and uncheck the require 128 bit
I have created a user account on the server for the ricoh and set this in the settiings of the Ricoh and verified everything is correct.

Are there any other things I have missed?

Hello,

I need Some advices on mounting a new Physical server to replace old one.

The old server (Windows 2008R2) was connected to a SAN and provided with 8 disks (Partitions) == has networked storage

Our project is to transfer/migrate the old server to the new one, but the new server is a standalone server (Local storage).

The new server has 6 disks with 350Go.

What I'm looking for is to configure the server with RAID5 and I will be able to create the 8 partitions.

Thank you for your help

Unable to change/add/delete File Permission

$

Hi guys,

Consider the following :-

\\server1\site\divisionfolder\teamfolder1

I've given the "Full" privilege to one of my users to "userfolder1" folder that resides on a W2K3 machine so that they can assign the rights to their subordinates on their own.

Still, that user can't modify the folder permissions for other users. (Add/Delete button was grayed out)

Any idea what I've missed out?
