I have an issue that just started in the last couple of weeks. There have been no security/permissions changes on my file servers, no updates
or software installed, and no updates installed on the Windows 10 clients that correlate to when this happened.
If someone tries to access a file that they have permissions to access on any of my file servers, all works fine. But if that same person tries
to access that same file when someone else already has it open, the get a "Sorry we couldn't find filename.xls, it is possible it was moved renamed or deleted" popup. If they click OK to that popup, it then tells them it can't access the file because
either the file name or path doesn't exist, it's being used by another program, or the workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook.
This same scenario used to just cause a popup that said so and so had it open and gave them an option to open as read only or notify to notify
them when the file is no longer in use.
However, if that same person accesses the file share directly by clicking Start and entering\\servername\sharename and browsing to the file, they get the Open in Read only or Notify options as expected.
I did see some articles about this from 2018 but the servers and clients are current with updates, including the fix Microsoft released back
then for this very same issue
Below are the Share and NTFS permissions granted to the user. Again, this hasn’t change and has worked like this for years. And from what I can
see, this only seems to be happening to Excel spreadsheets.
