WorkFolders Windows 10

Hello,

I´m currently testing out WorkFolders for Windows 10(Official release) but I´m unable to get this working.
There is no problem with Windows 8.1

Error message: (Sync Stopped. Can´t encrypt files) To continue synchronising, close any open Files or application...

Work Folders detected a sync error. Check partnership status, network connectivity, and disk space. EventID 9002

Sync failed. Work Folders path: C:\Users\MYUSER\Work Folders; Error: (0x80c80314) The Work Folders path has to be encrypted. You might have an application holding the Work Folders folder open or the folder might be compressed. Close File Explorer and any open files or apps, and check the folder's Advanced properties to ensure that the folder is not compressed. EventID 2100

Client is running with Windows Defender(SCEP) and I cant see any application that would cause this issue.

How can I pinpoint this problem and is there someone that have had the same issue?

Have recently set up an new windows 2012 r2 file server and now running some reports for the first time. I know there are lare files present by performing a search for large files but these do not get presented in the reports in FSRM. Where should I start my troubleshooting, are there any specific logs I can look at?

I have set up a report for a specific folder with large files in it via Storage Reports Management but get nothing in the report, no matter what I specify as size.

Any suggestions or ideas are welcome.

Thanks,

Win2012 R2 Intel i350-T2 RSS enabled but SMB3 RSS false

I am trying to figure out why RSS is not enabled for SMB3 on a Windows 2012 R2 server with Intel i350-T2 nic cards using Intel drivers 12.11.97.0.

Ethernet 4 is connected to a 1GB switch,  the card is show to have RSS enabled

Get-NetAdapterRSS :

Name                                            : Ethernet 4
InterfaceDescription                            : Intel(R) I350 Gigabit Network Connection

Yet both Get-SMB server/clientNetworkInterface command show RSS as false ?

PS C:\Users\ncote> Get-SmbServerNetworkInterface | Select-Object -Property *

CimClass              : ROOT/Microsoft/Windows/SMB:MSFT_SmbServerNetworkInterface
CimInstanceProperties : {FriendlyName, InterfaceIndex, IpAddress, LinkSpeed...}

I have no idea why the SMB3 layer is showing RSS as false or how to enabled it.

System details :

hardware Dell T7500 workstation with dual x5650 xeon cpu's 96GB of ram, Nics : Intel i350-T2, disabled Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx, DLink DFE-530TX and some  vmware virtual adapters.

When multiple large GB files are copied to the server via SMB or when I run Iperf  with parallel sessions  only one CPU core shows close to 90% usage.  the PerfmonPer Processor Network Activity / Interrupt Cycles/sec only show activity on 1 cpu core instance 12.

Disable Work Folders client free disk space check?

I have 3 TB Work Folder and I had todisable client side because of error.

Now I try to re-enable it, but I get "This location doesn't have enough free space. Choose a different location or clear 2,68 TB of space on this drive".

Client and Server sides have same files, so do I really need to delete all my client side files and resync everything?

Thanks!

Migrating files from one domain to another and apply new permissions

$

Hi all,

We have a file server in Domain1 which has about 2 million files and each folder has permissions based on global groups in Active Directory.

I've managed to export all the groups to the new Domain (Domain2) and, as well, add the groups from Domain1 as members of the groups in Domain2.

\\Domain1\Accounting is now a member of \\Domain2\Accounting.

Is there a tool I can use to migrate all the files from server in Domain1 to Domain2 and change the groups on each folder so that they reflect the new group in \\Domain2.

I'm thinking to manually create the top level folders first, assign the \Domain2\Accounting group, than use Robocopy to copy all the files and let them inherit the permission. However, we have a few subfolders which contain more granular permissions.

Let me know if you have done this before, and, how you went about it..

Much appreciated.

Simple Space with one HD and one SSD - Split status

$

I was experimenting with Windows Server 2012 R2 ability to use a SSD drive in a storage pool for write-back cache.

The storage pool consists of one 1.5TB disk and one 120 GB SSD drive. After a server reboot the pool shows an error status with a caution symbol on the SSD drive.

In the health screen of the properties on the SSD drive it shows Health status: Warning and Operational status: Split.

The status of the 1.5tb disk shows Health status: Healthy and Operational Status: OK.

I can't find any reference to a Operational status: Split.

Does anyone know what the "split" status indicates and how or if it can be corrected?

Get "Operational: Split" Warning on a HDD in a Simple Space config

I have the exact same problem as this guy with storage pools / virtualdisks in server 2012 R2. I can neither find a solution or referance to this warning message.

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/217dcd45-b121-4e5c-bb2d-11284012f8c9/simple-space-with-one-hd-and-one-ssd-split-status?forum=winserverfiles

In the health screen of the properties on the Physical drive it shows Health status: Warning and Operational status: Split.

The other drive shows Health status: Healthy and Operational Status: OK.

I can't find any reference to a Operational status: Split.

Does anyone know what the "split" status indicates and how or if it can be corrected?

Is it sensible to use shadow copies (previous versions) with DFSR?

$

I have a 2012r2 server at the centre of a hub and spoke DFSR with 6 other servers.

I am considering implementing shadow copies to enable "previous versions" every couple of hours.

However there is clearly some degree of disk churn with the DFS, e.g the cacheing & confilct and deleted folders in the DFSR sub folders.

Is there any reason I shouldn't use shadow copies with DFSR?

Windows Server 2012 R2 Slow to Load

$

Hello,

We recently migrated all of our HomeDirs over from a Server 2003 to server 2012 R2.  Everything seems to be working (only the 2nd Day)

The problem I am having is when I open computer management on the new server 2012 and click on the Sessions folder under Shared Folders.  It takes 10mins or more to load then when I try and click on anything after if is done loading it freezes or hangs. I have found one solution to turn off the NetbIOS of IPv4/TCPIP but that did not work for me.

Has anyone else ran into this problem and what did you do to solve it.

Shared Folders Session Super Slow, even Freezing, Server 2012R2

Hello, I am using a "Windows Server 2012R2" and I am using it as a scale out file server. When I navigate into the "Computer management / System Tools / Shared Folders / Sessions" the listings are populating super slow, freezing, and I pretty much can't have any interaction with the console at all because of the crawling speed. What can be the issue to that? I have over 100 sessions run on this Hyper-V enabled SOFS server, but i would assume that this should not be a problem for Windows Server 2012R2 Datacenter edition.

Shared folders 'Sessions' pane severly broken under 2008/Vista/R2. Never completes its list.

I've been using the Session pane under shared folders in the Computer Mannagenet MMC for years on 2003. Now I've migrated to 2008 and Vista, this pane never managed to show all the sessions, it starts listing them 1 by 1, then restarts from the top, almost like its trying to give a dynamic view, or its getting reset. I can still get this functionality via a 2003 box ( remote Computer Management) so its not like the server can't get the information, the MMC is the issue. However, since our 2003 boxes will soon be getting their last rights said to them, I'm interested in getting this fixed or a workaround/alternative.

Is there another way to see this information? I can see all the open files in the other pane, but on a file server which has upwards of 300 users, this is always a huge list. I also like to see how long users have been logged in etc.

 Any ideas?

Tiered storage down with physical disk status Split

I have a Volume on a Pool of Tiered Storage.
Recently I noticed some errors being reported on the VirtualDisk in the eventlog and I ran chkdsk two times.
I seemed to work for a short time, but now the virtualdisk does no longer come up after a reboot and manual attaching also does not work.
the Tiered Storage pool consists of a SSD and HDD and the HDD is reportig an operationalstatus of 'Split'.
Repair-VirtualDisk has not effect on the VirtualDisk.

PS C:\Windows\system32> Get-StoragePool

PS C:\Windows\system32> Get-VirtualDisk | Get-PhysicalDisk

PhysicalDisk3       False               Split               Warning             Auto-Select                     2.73 TB

The question I have is, what does an OperationalStatus of Split means and is it resolvable in any way?

Thanks in advance.

Minimum required permissions on DFS Root

I am attempting to secure the DFS Root folder such that "Everyone" and "BUILTIN\Users" are not required to permit domain users to access the DFS folder structure.

What are the minimum requirements for NTFS permissions on the DFS Root folder and can the two groups referenced be removed entirely or do they have to remain?

How to enable SMB RAW mode on Windows 2012R2 Server File Sharing?

$

0

We are currently migrating old Win2003 servers to Windows 2012R2 server, but they need to do file sharing with old Windows 98SE controllers / industrial pc's.
We have added & enabled CIFS/SMB1 functionality in the server manager (roles / features), and changed some local policies to allow file sharing between Win98SE & Win2012R2. This works fine now.
However, we notice a large speed difference between file transfer between Win98SE & Win2003 and Win98SE & Win2012R2.
I looked into the SMB traffic with wireshark, and the only difference in the way the files are being exchanged is that Windows 2003 supports RAW mode for SMB (which is used by Win98SE), and Windows 2012R2 does not support it by default.
I tried to enable/disable this on Win2012R2 server through the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\EnableRaw    (0 or 1), but neither setting made a difference (alway rebooted the server after changing settings to make sure they were applied correctly.

Please see the attached screenshots of both Windows 2003 & 2012R2 SMB capablities in the SMB negotation response capture.

Does anybody know how to enable/disable SMB RAW mode on Windows 2012R2?

Thank you in advance for your help!!

Should ReFS be used without Storage Spaces?

To my understanding, ReFS can't repair detected file or metadata corruption unless it's hosted on a Storage Spaces volume.  Assuming this is true, it stands to reason that ReFS should not be used unless hosted on Storage Spaces volume.  Is this accurate?

Ricoh Aficio MP C2051 Scan to Folder - Windows Server 2012 Error: Authentication with the destination has failed check settings

$

0

I have recently upgraded a clients servers to Windows Server 2012 & since doing so have lost the ability to scan to folder.

Both servers are domain controllers and previously on a 2008 domain controller I would have had to make the following change to allow scan to folder:
 Administrative Tools
 Server Manager
 Features
 Group Policy Manager
 Forest: ...
 Default Domain Policy
Computer configuration
 Policies
 Windows Settings
 Security Settings
 Local Policies
 Security Options
Microsoft Network Server: Digitally Sign Communications (Always)
 - Define This Policy
 - Disabled

However I have applied this to the Windows 2012 server but am still unable to scan, possibly due to added layers of security in server 2012. The error on the scanner is Authentication with the destination has failed check settings.
I have also tried the following at the server:
Policies -> Security Policies
Change Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level to: Send LM & NTLM - Use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated.
Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) clients and uncheck the require 128 bit.
Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) servers and uncheck the require 128 bit
I have created a user account on the server for the ricoh and set this in the settiings of the Ricoh and verified everything is correct.

Are there any other things I have missed?

REGEX for FCI - Examples and Samples

Where  I can find samples and exampls for REGEX?

I´m creating some tests in file classification and looking for the following patterns:

CPF: 445.166.310-59

CNPJ: 34.087.373/0001-63

ProjectName: ProjectX, or Project X, or Project-X

How can i do that?

I suppose:

CPF: \d{9} without simbols and \d{3}\.\d{3}\.\d{3}-\d{2}

CNPJ: \d{12} withot simbols and \d{2}\.\d{3}\.\d{3}\.\/\d{4}-\d{2}

ProjectName: Project\wX, Project\sX

A little "trick" question here: CPF/CNPJ can be written, ignoring the first numbers if they, zero, so the 005.166.310-59 could be found  05.166.310-59 and most common  5.166.310-59

Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a limit to the number of DFS namespace roots?  I can't find any figure to say if there is a limit so I would assume there isn't one but that doesn't sit well with me.
