Roaming profiles not enough disk space

$

Hi,
I have Windows 2012 server (2008 domain level) working with many Windows 7 Pro. Every user have set his own roaming profile catalog on NAS server.

Some of the user after logon get the message like "Syncronization failed ..... check the event viewer". Event viewer is informing that the reason is: not enough disk space on local disk and profiles files could not be copied.

It is wrong because those profiles have maximum 2 GB of data and local disks have more than 10 GB free space. Also NAS server, where profiles are storing, have still more than 4 TB free place.

Thank You for any suggestion.

Pin a folder in SSD Tier?

Can pinning happen at the folder level?  Instead of just pinning one file at a time to an SSD tier, would I be able to pin a folder so that any file inside of the folder would inherit the pinning to the SSD?

Add Folders NOT through the Dashboard - and have proper permissions, access, etc?

This may be hard to explain, you folks are always so helpful, so I'll try my best.  Here we go.

I have a server for my business, it is a Western Digital DS6100 running WSE 2012 R2.

Nightly I back up the ServerFolders (all sub-folders and files there) to two off-site NASs via FTP.  I use a third party program called SyncbackPro v7.  Wednesday night, for some unknown reason my server completely crashed and was unrecoverable.  WD is sending me a new server.

Here comes my question.  Syncback will restore all my Folders and all my files with a single click (I have all its profiles backed up, and the files on the NAS).  The problem is I have noticed if I add or create Folders through the Windows file explorer, and NOT through the Dashboard, then the folders appear to not be visible everywhere, and I'm not sure they have the proper permissions, etc.  Syncback will recreate the folders, but obviously that will be done as if I was using File Explorer, not the Dashboard.  Any suggestions on the best way to have WSE 2012 Dashboard recognize folders it did not create?

Perhaps I manually add back the Folders, then see if Syncback will find and use that folder and replace its files?

Or should I let Syncback add the folders back, with their files and somehow get the Dashboard to recognize folders it did not create and set the proper permissions and so forth?

I know this question is going to be a pain in the neck to answer, so I appreciate any help, info and suggestions.  Thanks!

Hi all,

  I have a following folder structure and need a best way to setup the permission

  Domain

      -->   DFSroot

                        --> Projects   (Only Project Managers to FC)

                                   -->Client 1

                                            --> site A

                                                   --> Mgmt   (Only Client 1-siteA -Mgmt FC)

                                                   ----> Ops    (only Mgmt and Ops -FC)

                                                   ---> Staff     (all above FC)

                                             ---> site B

                                                   -->Mgmt   (Only Client 1-siteB -Mgmt FC)

                                                   --->Ops     (only Mgmt and Ops -FC)

                                                   --->staff    (all above FC)

                                   -->Client 2

without creating so many groups and assign permission how can i set this with nested groups?

Server 2008 R2 - Extend Partition .. space not showing available

Good morning all -- have a question about extending a volume on Server 2008 R2.

The volume is an iSCSI target using the Microsoft iSCSI initiator -- the iSCSI device is a Dell MD3000i.

The volume was originally 500GB.  On the MD3000i, I expanded the space from 500GB to 1TB -- this went fine without any issues.  Once the space was expanded on the MD3000, I hopped on the server and saw the available unallocated space on that drive..  So, I followed the normal MS guide to extend a partition using the unallocated space -- I used the command prompt, diskpart, method instead of Disk Management GUI.

After extending the disk (which went fine without any issues), I can now see Disk Management reports the drive as 1100GB instead of the original 500GB.  However, when I go to My Computer, it still only shows the disk as being 500GB.  When I right clicked on the volume to check the properties, it still showed 500GB but it didn't look right -- I recall some a couple of the areas just showed 0 bytes even though the disk was working and was usable.

After rebooting the computer, the problem still persists -- I did run a 'chkdsk /R G:' so it could find/repair any errors -- this fixed the 0 byte errors I saw on the drive properties.

It should also be noted that from the MD3000, it is showing the volume as a 1100GB target instead of the original 500GB (so that looks fine).

Any reason why this additional space is not available for use?

Create an always-on file server

I have 2 servers, an sFTP server running BitVise and another server which contains the home folders for the sFTP users.

We would like to make this system redundant so that we are able to lose one node in each tier without losing the workflow so my aim is to create 2 servers in a load-balanced scenario for sFTP redundancy and 2 servers acting as a cluster for the filesystem/home folders.

Is this the best setup? Are there alternatives to make it more resiliant?

Design:

Load Balancer (using the F5)
|
+- Server01 (sFTP)
+- Server02 (sFTP)
|
+- CLUSTER_FS
+---- Server03 (File)
+---- Server04 (File)

Hi All,

We have three nodes cluster is running on our environment which has windows 2012 R2 OS.

Currently in the cluster file share had been configured. users are accessing the cluster shares through SMB Protocol. for the last more than six months cluster shares get disconnected automatically and it is not available to the users. If i just failover the cluster role/disk to another node, it will started to working fine and this issue occurs every 30 days.

Can you please suggest your solutions to over come on this issue.

HI!

Got a question regarding access conditions.

is it possible to setup a shared folder with access only to a combination of a computername and username.

I would say with access conditions. done this and the "effective permissions" mention that I should have permissions.

but on the client I get access denied???

Can someone help with this issue?

Adding Network Share - Access Denied for all users on Windows 7

I am working on standing up a domain on my network using Server 2012R2.  So far, I have two Windows 10 (64-bit) machines and one Windows 7 (32-bit) machine added.  The Windows 10 machines were able to map the network drives without any issues and the drive I added to user profiles maps automatically as it should.  However, the Windows 7 machine will not map to the network drives and gets Access Denied.  I used both of my accounts (standard and admin) to login with on the W7 box, the share added to my standard user account does not map when I log in (nor does it for the other user) and I cannot connect with either account.  Admins do have full control permissions, but get access denied.

As for troubleshooting, I saw that there were about 1000 pages relating to this issue on TechNet, but I tried the troubleshooting steps from ten of them to no avail.  One share is for our personal folders which each user is explicitly added to that folder, but it gives access denied.  I checked the TCP/IP  settings for DNS, which are DHCP assigned and I have all of the recommended settings.  I have the suffix listed in GP and it shows under the TCP/IP suffix setting.  The machine has a forward and reverse record in DNS.  I tried to change HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManServer\Parameters\EnableSecuritySignature value to 0 and HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA\RestrictAnonymous value to zero, which both did not work.  I tried Net Use command which allowed the connection, but mapping still fails.  I use the server IP in lieu of the domain name and that is still access denied.  I even shutoff the host firewall on the W7 machine to see if that may have been misconfigured.

I went back through my GP to find settings that may affect the W7 machines, but not the W10, which nothing stood out to me.  I am thinking there is a GP setting I made causing the denial, but cannot figure out which one.  Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Applications crash / Permission problems.

Hello,

I have been encountering a problem for a few weeks, ever since the storage space of my virtual server has been increased. The provider of this server says it is a problem from the OS configuration thuts my responsability, and won't help me.

After browsing for a while, I still did not encounter any satisfying answer to the problem.

I use applications that are deemed "dangerous" by windows (this could be relevantt).

The first problem I have is that one of those won't stop crashing, going to 0KB and is then unusable as none of the application is left. I don't have any type of antivirus, even disabled the full firewall, disabled internet explorer enhanced security, did everything I could. I am an administrator on this server. It is a PE and I got it from the administrator account. That is for my first problem.

My second problem is with another application, which will close by itself, but won't go to 0KB. It will only be taken off the permissions of the administrator group, thus making it unavailable to me. I can always put the permissions back, launch the application again, but after a few seconds the application will crash and the permissions will be taken off again.

I really can't figure out a solution to any of those problems, I'm willing to try any given solution as I pay my virtual server for nothing at the moment.

Thank you.

I have run into a problem using DFS.  What is happening is that on the 2 file share servers all folders are showing and replicating like they are support to.  If I go to the namespace for one location it works but of I go to the namespace in another state then some folders are missing.  One of the file share server are in the same state that is having the problem.  I hope this makes sense to someone and they can help.

Thanks.

Hello Everyone,

I am using Windows Server 2012 R2 for sharing the files with network.

I am having issue with sharing the folder.

I shared the folder and set permissions to particular people over the domain.

When a person access the folder first time, he/she enters the username and password.

The problem is that when he/she access the same folder again, the system does not prompt for username and password.

I would like to configure server so that it ask every time username and password even though the same person is accessing the folder.

Please Help!

Thanks.

Hi All,

  I have 5 Sites and only Two DFS servers in two location ( HQ and DR).

 One DFS share H:  \\domain.local\homefolders\users\%username%

 Set all locations user Homedrive to above

  I set the Target Priority for HQ  first among all target and DR for last among all target.

DR site and other 3 site got the Riverbed except HQ ( lol)

Now users are at other 3 locations complaining about the speed. their IP link speed is 4 & 6MB.

So what is the best option for me?

create 2 Folder Targets?

 \\domain.local\homefolders

               ---->Users

              ----->Loc1   ( Make this share Primary in DR DFS server and set first among all target then replicate to HQ?

Hi Folks,

I have been searching around and can't find any information on migrating from an NFS server to a Windows File Server.

The one document I found refereed to Windows XP so was quite old. Searching for NFS and Windows produces mostly results pertaining to the NFS Client for Windows.

Can anyone help me find some resources on this?

Thanks,

Michael
