Hello,
Our current setup is Acrobat is the default PDF viewer and Protected Mode is turned on. We currently have a single Windows 2012R2 File Server and a single DFS server.
SRV-DEPT-SHARES is the physical server name
DFS has a namespace for Depts and a target for each department
\\domain.fqdn\depts\IT and that target points to \\SVR-DEPT-SHARES\IT and \\domain.fqdn\depts\IT gets mapped as V by GPP
Users are able to open multiple PDF files in the same launching of Acrobat by double clicking the PDFs in the V drive. In other words, everything works as expected.
So I am migrating department shares to a new clustered file server setup (2019).
SRV-DEPT-SHARE1 and SRV-DEPT-SHARE2 are the physical server names and the "virtual" name is SRV-DEPT-SHARE
I have migrated all the IT department data to the new clustered setup and changed the DFS Folder Target to point to \\SRV-DEPT-SHARE\IT and everything is fine as V is mapped to the new cluster. Nothing about DFS changed other than the target for this
share.
Users can open multiple word, excel etc files at the same time by clicking on each in their V drive. BUT, PDFs only open the first one that they click on. Subsequent PDFs cannot be opened by clicking as long as that first one is open.
They can open multiple PDFs on V by File > Open and navigating to another PDF on the V drive.
They can open multiple PDFs on V IF they turn off Protected Mode in Acrobat.
They can open multiple PDFs on V if they change the association to Chrome or Edge etc but not via Arcobat
They can open multiple PDFs on other drives mapped to DFS targets
They can open multiple PDFs on the clustered server if they map a drive to \\SRV-DEPT-SHARE\IT, bypassing DFS
They can open multiple PDFs on other DFS targeted drives on the old file server
So there has to be something wrong with my Cluster Setup or some step I missed, or does Acrobat just not play nice with both when DFS & Windows File Server Clusters are involved?
